In order to put their environmental policies into effect, the EU has a range of financial and technical tools which have expanded alongside developing policies.

Environment and Health Action Plan 2004-2010

The action plan aims to reduce illness caused by pollution through a system that combines information on the state of the environment, the ecosystem and on human health. It calls for citizens to be made aware of the risks they are exposed to and for the training of environment and health professionals.

With LIFE, a means of environmental funding, the European Commission contributes to sustainable development, facilitates progress in the fight against climate change, protects biodiversity.

Asia Pro Eco Programme

Asia Pro Eco is a five-year initiative (2002-2007) launched by the European Union to promote environmental cooperation between the EU and Asia.

Agenda 21

Agenda 21 is a document covering all the aims and objectives of environmental, economic and social programmes and signed by more than 170 countries from all over the world during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) which took place in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992.

Ecolabel

The European mark for ecological quality is awarded to the best products and services from an environmental point of view and thus differentiates them from market competitors, while maintaining high performance standards. The label certifies that the product or service has a lower environmental impact throughout its entire life cycle.
